To transform lives and disrupt the paths that lead to gun violence.
A community where youth can pursue their dreams free from the fear of gun violence, with full access to the resources and support they need to thrive.
For the youth in our community to be safe, free, and alive.
In the Fall of 2019, a tragic shooting at Ferris Park claimed the life of a 17-year-old and wounded two others—marking Lansing’s fifth gun violence fatality of that year. In response to the crisis, our co-founder, Michael Lynn Jr., mobilized a network of deeply rooted grassroots leaders to collectively address the trauma. From that urgent call to action, The Village Lansing was born.
We began with street outreach, launching Fellowship BBQs across every side of the city. We showed up with food, music, and an unconditional commitment to listen. By asking our people directly about their barriers and struggles, we built our foundation on real-time community needs, establishing the deep trust required to do real intervention work.
In 2020, we established our physical headquarters in South Lansing. This space became a safe, resource-dense sanctuary designed for proactive conflict resolution, life-skills workshops, and holistic, harm-reduction services that target the root causes of systemic violence.
Today, The Village Lansing is a premier community violence intervention pillar. We have scaled our early park fellowships into massive, annual community traditions that restore safety and unity to our neighborhoods. By deepening our relationship-based mentorship, expanding structured youth program architecture, and standing directly in the gap, we are actively disrupting the cycles of retaliatory gun violence to build a safer, thriving Lansing.

We are all of you! We are simply people that care about the youth in our city. We want to see the communities within Lansing thrive. We want to stop feeling helpless knowing so many kids and families are falling through the cracks, so we decided to take control and start doing what we can, where we can, however we can.

We use evidence-based methods in Community Violence Intervention (CVI) to provide support to youth ages 12-25 and their families, who are most impacted/at-risk of gun violence.

We prioritize the youth who have been overlooked, left behind, or given up on. We stand in the gap with them, building deep trust, offering intensive mentorship, and delivering real-time resources designed to permanently redirect their paths. If a need exists, we will figure out how to meet it.

We deliver hands-on, boots-on-the-ground prevention and intervention by meeting our youth and families exactly where they are. Through outreach and high-energy community engagement, we prioritize trust and relationships with those we serve.
