“Life is like a game of chess. To win you have to make a move. Knowing which move to make comes with insight and knowledge, and by learning the lessons that are accumulated along the way. We become each and every piece within the game called life.”
-Allan Rufus
The Village is holding drop-in chess fellowship for those ages 18+ that are not in high school. We meet Sundays from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at The Village Lansing.
This is a time to learn how to play chess, learn more about chess, learn new things about chess, and to just fellowship with others around the game of chess.
The Village Chess Club is for Lansing area youth grades 6th-12th. Instruction will take place at The Village Lansing.
Our instructors will offer the understanding of chess under the United States Chess Federation (USCF), this way participants that learn to play the game of chess in our program can play anywhere!
Our mission is to give an appreciation of how thoughts affect outcomes, how every decision affects every outcome, and the ability to see the bigger picture. We believe that by teaching the game of chess, we are giving our young people the appreciation for their own thought processes. We want to give them the tools to think before they act, tools that they can apply to everyday situations and life.
Participants will receive various incentives and prizes throughout the program, their own chess rules book, chess journal, a Village Chess Club t-shirt, and a special "Refuse to Lose" t-shirt and certificate upon completion of the program.
There are many items needed to support the program that can be purchased online and delivered directly to The Village Lansing.
I like to think ahead and plan my moves.... anything can happen in life you just have to know how to move with a purpose. My goal is to become a chess master. I want to help young people to grow and to always be aware of their surroundings.
Let's build a Village of love, peace, respect, and accountability.
