“Life is like a game of chess. To win you have to make a move. Knowing which move to make comes with insight and knowledge, and by learning the lessons that are accumulated along the way. We become each and every piece within the game called life.”
-Allan Rufus

The Village hosts drop-in chess fellowship for adults ages 18+. This is a time to learn how to play chess, learn more about chess, learn new things about chess, and to just fellowship with others around the game of chess.
The Village Chess Club is for Lansing-Area youth grades 6th-12th. Instruction will take place at The Village Lansing.
Our instructors teach the game under the United States Chess Federation (USCF) standards, so participants that learn to play the game of chess in our program can play anywhere!
We use the chessboard to teach critical life skills. Our mission is to help young people understand how their thoughts directly affect their outcomes, how every decision has a consequence, and how to look at the bigger picture before making a move. By mastering chess, our youth build a deeper appreciation for their own thought processes. We are equipping them with the practical tools to think critically before they act—skills they can confidently apply to everyday situations and the rest of their lives.

There are many items needed to support the program that can be purchased online and delivered directly to The Village Lansing.
